This comprehensive guide offers a closer look into the Asia Pacific Transgender Network (APTN) – who we are, what we do, and the work we are passionate about. This booklet offers invaluable insights into our mission, guiding principles, and our ongoing initiatives across the region.

About APTN

At APTN, we are committed to advancing the rights and well-being of transgender and gender-diverse people in the Asia Pacific. Our mission is to foster a just and inclusive society where all transgender people can live free from discrimination, stigma, and violence, and work towards building empowerment and equality for transgender and gender non-conforming people. Our work spans across the Asia Pacific, from South Asia to the Pacific Islands.

Our Guiding Principles

The APTN Profile Booklet dives into our core principles and key approaches that drive our work:

  • Research: We are committed to producing groundbreaking research that informs policies and practices impacting transgender communities.
  • Movement Building: We believe in the power of community, and our focus is on building and strengthening transgender networks and alliances across the Asia Pacific.
  • Advocacy: From local grassroots to international platforms, APTN is a fierce advocate for the rights of transgender people.
  • Public Campaigning: We raise awareness and challenge harmful narratives through campaigns that bring transgender issues to the forefront of public discourse.
  • Leadership Development: Empowering transgender leaders is at the heart of what we do. Our leadership programs help build the skills and confidence needed to drive change.

Our Origins

The booklet also provides an overview of our origins – how APTN came to be and the journey we’ve undertaken. Our organization has been created to address the need for a regional network that could address the unique challenges faced by transgender people in the Asia Pacific.

Programs and Initiatives

From health services and HIV prevention to legal advocacy and capacity building, our initiatives are designed to address the diverse needs of transgender communities across the region, especially in providing transgender-specific healthcare resources and our efforts in policy reform.

Publications

APTN has produced a wealth of knowledge through our various publications, and the profile booklet showcases the breadth of our work. Our reports, toolkits, and research papers play a vital role in shifting policies and promoting understanding at both the community and institutional levels.

Our Partners

None of our work would be possible without the support and collaboration of our partners. The profile booklet acknowledges the invaluable contributions of the many organizations, donors, and community groups we have had the privilege of working with.
