On the 16th of March 2026, Bhumika has been nominated to Nepal’s House of Representatives through proportional representation by the centrist Rastriya Swatantra Party, which won a majority of the 182 seats, and will sit in the 275-member House of Representatives elected on 5th of March, 2026.

Bhumika is an activist associated with Blue Diamond Society, a Nepali LGBT rights organization; where she was engaged in advocacy work fighting for the rights of trans and gender diverse people in Nepal.

Throughout her activist career, she has worked together with other activists; contributing to the fight for transgender acceptance, education, and legal gender recognition in Nepal.

“This is a historic moment”, said the president of the Blue Diamond Society, Umisha Pandey, explaining that trans representation in leadership positions is vital because “Our pains, our sufferings, our feelings, our stories, and our every problem are only understood by us but not by others.”

In a time of massive backlash against trans rights in the world, it is hugely encouraging to see trans representation in leadership positions.

Trans leadership is incredibly important because nobody knows about issues surrounding trans people more than trans people themselves; and exclusion means increased marginalisation.
