Menstruation Handbook for Trans and Gender Diverse People in Asia Pacific

Because of its deeply gendered nature in our society and in daily life, menstruation can be hard to navigate for some transgender and gender diverse (TGD) folks, and can be triggering for some.

This booklet is intended to equip TGD communities with affirming information and knowledge on menstruation, and is informed by findings from focus group studies, and a regional survey on menstruation conducted online with TGD communities by APTN and focus group discussions involving our partner organisations in Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Tonga.

This booklet shares information on the needs identified through the survey and the FGDs, following careful review by community leaders and medical professionals. Consideration has been given to ensuring that the language and terminologies used in the booklet remain affirming for TGD people, and information shared is specifically tailored to their needs.

We encourage you to read this booklet at their own pace, prioritising their mental health and well-being. TGD people in the Asia-Pacific region deserve access to dignified menstruation, just like everyone else, and menstrual care for TGD people must be recognised as a right, not a privilege.
