It is with profound sadness that APTN mourns the tragic and senseless loss of Dr. Leli, a respected leader and beloved member of the community. Her life was taken in an act of violence that is both heartbreaking and unacceptable.

As a leader, advocate and doctor, Dr. Leli was a source of wisdom and generosity for countless people across Fiji, the Pacific, and beyond. Through her work, she created pathways for inclusion, equality, and respect. Her long-standing involvement with APTN reflected her commitment to advancing health systems that honor the dignity of all people, particularly trans and gender-diverse communities. She contributed her expertise in numerous regional consultations, bringing invaluable knowledge on health equity and community inclusion in the Pacific and providing expert review and insight to the development of the Trans Health Module and Community Based Monitoring in Fiji. Her insights contributed to shaping strategic planning across the region, ensuring that our shared work remained rooted in justice and inclusion.

The violent taking of her life reverberates far beyond Fiji and it is a painful reminder of the urgent need to end transphobia and all forms of hate, to protect our communities, and to demand justice and equality. We honor Dr. Leli for her unwavering dedication, charisma, and influence. We grieve this devastating loss alongside her family, friends, colleagues, and community, may she rest in power and peace.
