APTN Community Translation of Publications

At APTN, we believe in the power of language to connect, empower, and support transgender communities across Asia and the Pacific. Our goal is to make our resources and publications accessible to everyone, regardless of their language. To achieve this, we invite community members, allies, and organisations to collaborate with us through Community Translation.

Why Community Translation?

Language should never be a barrier to accessing critical information, especially for marginalised communities. Our publications cover vital topics such as healthcare, human rights, advocacy, and legal protections, and we aim to make these resources available in as many languages as possible. Through Community Translation, you can help us bridge this gap by translating our materials into local languages and dialects.

How Does It Work?

We welcome contributions from experienced translators, community organisations, and multilingual individuals who are passionate about supporting transgender communities. The process is simple:

1. Choose a Publication: Browse through our library of resources and select a document you would like to translate.

2. Reach out: Send us an email to express your interest for translation for your Community.

3. Translate: You’ll be given a timeframe and guidelines to complete the translation. We encourage collaboration and can provide support throughout the process.

4. Submit for Review: Once your translation is complete, our team will review the content to ensure accuracy and cultural sensitivity.

5. Get Published: After approval, your translation will be shared on our platform, credited to you or your organisation, and made available to our wider community.

Who Can Participate?

We welcome participation from anyone who is:

  • Fluent in both English and a target language
  • Passionate about supporting transgender communities
  • Knowledgeable in transgender issues, human rights, and/or healthcare (preferred but not required)
  • Able to adhere to APTN’s values of inclusivity, respect, and integrity

Whether you are an individual or an organization, your contribution will have a direct impact on the lives of transgender people across the region.

Languages We Prioritise

While we welcome translations into any language, we are particularly interested in translations for the following:

  • Thai
  • Hindi
  • Bahasa Indonesia
  • Filipino
  • Chinese (Mandarin)
  • Vietnamese
  • Bengali
  • Khmer
  • Nepali
  • Japanese

If you speak a language not listed here but want to contribute, we still encourage you to reach out!

Why Volunteer as a Translator?

  • Contribute to Change: Your work will provide life-changing information to people in their own language.
  • Build Connections: Join a network of advocates and organisations dedicated to supporting transgender communities.
  • Gain Recognition: We will acknowledge and credit all contributors on our website and in the translated publications.
