According to Nachele “Hua” Boonyapisomparn, Chair of the Committee for Advancing Public Policy on Trans Well-being, the “Trans Wellbeing Charter” would be the first charter dedicated to addressing the wellbeing of transgender people in Thailand, and that it encompasses their rights, and solidifies their place in society and the economy.

The charter is expected to be launched on the 31st of March to mark the International Transgender Day of Visibility; a day dedicated to raising awareness of discrimination faced by trans and non-binary people.

This charter, which is a collaboration between the Committee on Transgender Wellbeing Policy and the Thailand National Health Commission office (NHCO), aims to provide a comprehensive roadmap for every agency to improve the wellbeing of transgender people. It centres around accessibility to hormones, inclusivity, and medical training for medical personnel on transgender people.

Techid Chawbangpom, NHCO’s Director of Metropolitan Public Policy Office said that the committee found trans peoples’ issues often go beyond health, and many areas require urgent protection under the national welfare system.

He ended by saying that this roadmap will help trans and gender diverse people have more access to our country’s healthcare system while being understood better by society.
