Non-Binary Rising marches for rights outside the gender binary in Thailand

On the 14th of July, Non-Binary Thailand, HCNL Thailand and ASEAN Sogie Caucus took to the streets with passionate activists and allies to demand rights for non-binary individuals.

The manifesto and demands came from a collaboration between Non-Binary Thailand and 6 other non-binary activists across SEA. The manifesto is written as a part of the first ever “Nonbinary SEA workshop”, which is a side event of Nonbinary Rising” hosted by Nonbinary Thailand with a support from ASEAN SOGIE Caucus.

Non-binary Rising march advocates for the right to live as their authentic selves without facing harassment, and to show their support for the Self-Determination Law with the Gender Marker Revision, which allows non-binary, trans and gender-nonconfirming people the agency to determine their own gender identities. This is crucial to safeguard them from discrimination and ensure equal access to resources and rights comparable to those of women and men.

Non-binary people have been neglected, even within LGBTQIA+ rights advocacy, and their rights were cut off in the Gender Recognition Act despite being at every hearing for the Act to declare their stands along with their needs since 2022. Non-binary identities are not too much, and should not be ignored. We can only advance our rights by being intersectional in our approach for advocacy.

“No pride for some of us without the liberation for all of us.”
