APTN joins hands with APCOM as a community partner to celebrate the 7th APCOM Hero Awards Event, which is held yearly to honour remarkable individuals contributing significantly to LGBTQIA+ rights in the Asia Pacific region.
Hosted by the German Embassy in Thailand, the event welcomed over 250 guests, including individuals, organisations, and allies dedicated to Queer Human Rights and advancements in HIV support.
Seventeen remarkable individuals and organisations received recognition, with 11 receiving HERO awards for their outstanding contributions. Notably, four awards were presented to Trans and gender diverse individuals.
The awards and recipients are as follows:
Shivananda Khan Award for Extraordinary Achievements – Remy Choo, Singapore
Business Ally – TransTalents Consulting Group, Thailand
Community Ally – Anupama Easwaran, India
Community Hero – Aisha Mughal, Pakistan
Community Organization – Key Population Advocacy Consortium (KPAC) PNG, Papua New Guinea
Covid-19 Hero – Mujer LGBT+ Organization, The Philippines
Health and Wellbeing – Dr. Jeremiah Pereira, Singapore
HIV Hero – Wangda Dorji, Bhutan
Social Justice – Rhadem Musawah, The Philippines
Transgender Hero – Lattavanh Sengdala, Laos
Young Achiever – Angel Queentus, Sri Lanka
A short video clip honoured the life and legacy of APCOM’s founder, the late Shivananda Khan, acknowledging the strong foundations he built for queer and HIV activism.
The evening featured captivating performances by Mr. Gay World Thailand, the Bangkok Gay Men’s Chorus, music by Daddy and Bear, Queer singer Silvy from Warner Music, and even a fashion show with community representatives conveying messages of hope!
